  1. The crusades:
The crusades were a holy war, they thought that if they fought in this war they will go straigh to heaven and all their sins would be forgiven.
For centuries Jerusalem was controlled by the muslims but they tolerated Christian pilgrims because it helped the economy, but after a while they didn´t accept them any more. And the pope, Urban the third, asked to the young knights to go and take this land back.
They started in 1095 and ended in 1291 but in this time were 8 crusades.
They were al motivated for different reasons but the most common was to “save their souls” as personal salvation.
But if a noble went he would take with him his serfs and peasants, so there were no people to work in the land and this ended into a famine.
Thank you for posting this interesting video, I really liked it but I´ve got a question, why did the peoplke go on the crusades if they knew their knights were dying in Jerusalem?

  2. This was a terrible time all throughout Europe when the church encouraged people to kill and it ended in a BIG mess for all of Europe. The reason for the crusades goes back to the Roman Empire when Jerusalem was ruled by the Christians and the Muslim Empire took over. To the Christians this was unacceptable but each religion believed that they had a right to the city due to religious monuments there. For Jews it was the Wailing Wall which was where there temple once stood and they believe it will be rebuilt there. To Christians it was important because it is where Jesus was crucified and was resurrected and where he preformed many of his miracles and the Holy Saboca was built over his tomb. For Muslims Jerusalem is important due to the presence of the third most important mosque, the Dome of Rock which is where they believe Mohamed jumped from his horse into heaven. The Pope of the time Herban II believed it was time to take Jerusalem back. He sent messages throughout Europe to stop fighting each other and prepare to fight the Musims, and then thousands flocked to the Pope even more then he wanted! They all marched to Jerusalem and took it back. The reason people went on these holy wars was because they were told they would all be forgiven for their sins. This was terrible time when people were convinced that killing people were pennants. Each piece of the knights armor meant something: the chain mail-the castle, the sword- Christ on the cross, shield-defense of their lord, their helmet-fear of shame and the spear-truth and strength. At this time a set laws were set for protection, first came their faith then their lords and finally wives, widows and friends. These soldiers who fought for 300 years were willing to follow any leader and at one point they even followed an enlightened goose. Some crusades succeeded in taking Jerusalem but it was always taken back, so now they were back where they started only now, thousands were dead! Few good things came of these crusades like the halt of fighting amongst themselves, trade expanded and a new transfer of information accord and due to the deaths of so many knights, kings got back control of just about all of their land.

  3. Hello teacher.
I liked this video because know I understand better the intention of the crusades.
The crusades were holy wars(a war for religious reasons or moral purpose). The reasons of the crusades goes back to the Roman Empire. The christians at that moment controlled the city. The Islamic Empire was a non christian group.
Goal was to regain the holy land. Holy land= Jerusalen.
People went to crusades because the church said any who went on crusade would have their sins forgiven. Also suggested they could become rich by taking the enemies stuff.

  4. The crusades were terrible times in history when the church kill lots of people to conquer holly land (Jerusalen). Fo the christians this is unacceptable but the pope who was the leader of the crusades, think that if they conquer Jerusalen Cristo will be …. continue
